Nertera depressa |
|
Genus of 6 species of mat-forming perennials from moist lowland to mountainous forest, moist grassland and scrub, in S. China, S.E.Asia, Australia, Mexico, and South America. A carpeting plant that for 8 months of the year you wouldn't notice, despite its tiny pleasant green leaves. But in late summer to autumn bright red beads appear, tucked between the leaves but too big to be concealed. A little gem for damp banks and rockeries, or as an understorey to shrubs in pots. Provide plenty of water, fresh air and bright light. |
